1898 GOLD ZAR KRUGER POND

R22,000.00 incl.VAT

  • RARE AND HISTORIC COIN
    • 130 coins with the 1898 dies were minted in 1899 with the  ’99’ over-print below Kruger’s bust.
    • This coin is not one of the over-prints yet it is still very scarce.
    • 137,000 was the normal output per year for one-pound coins, but
    • the mint was closed on 1 January 1898 and opened again on the 1st of October 1899 to fund the Anglo-Boer war.
    • The British’s interception of the 99 MINT DIES caused these emergency measures.
    • Nobody knows how many 1899 coins were minted with 1898 dies.
